Behold the multiple ways in which the selfish gene persistently works against our own best interests and our
own evolution! 
It is interested in three things: reproduction, reproduction, and reproduction!
In order to accomplish these purposes, it clouds our vision, our hearing, and our judgement.
It clouds our vision by making us see what is really inside us as if it were outside of us ( psychological projection ).
It clouds our vision by making us blind to the elephant sitting in the living room couch: world overpopulation.
It clouds our hearing by making warning sirens sound like siren songs.
It clouds our judgement by making intrinsically harmless, meaningless, and powerless pixel patterns and sound bites seem intrinsically
harmful, meaningful, and powerful.
It clouds our judgement by making us believe that consumption of high-octane ethanol will make us happy. Instead, putting ethanol into
the wrong tank clouds our judgement even more, leading to unwanted pregnancies, which in turn lead to more overpopulation, more misery, and more violence at
all levels: domestic, national, planetary, and... ( maybe eventually! 
) interplanetary.

One Halloween night I witnessed a drunken driver's life end maybe 50 feet in front of me ( for WC's benefit: at the intersection of Imperial
Highway and Alameda Street ) as a result of her car colliding at high speed with another car. The collision threw her on the pavement ( it happened before
safety belts had been adopted ), and she was instantly killed by the other car. Perhaps that's why I'm obsessed with not putting ethanol into the wrong
tank...

Nice post.
It clouds our vision by making us blind to the elephant sitting in the living room couch: world overpopulation. There is no such thing as over population, it's a myth. And a silly myth at that. It's almost as silly as the water shortage myth but not quite as funny.

We humanists believe that we human beings ( or our descendants ) have the potential of achieving anything which does not contradict the laws of nature.
But that that potential will indeed be realized at some time in the future is by no means a foregone conclusion.

contradict the laws of nature I disagree, sorta...I do believe we have the ability to ...not contradict nature, exactly... But...we can 'manipulate' it...for lack of a better word. Don't you think ...the human mind is capable of sooo much more? What is it then, that distinguishes one human as a genius, and another as an idiot? Am I getting my point across, or am I not clear enough? I could come back to this again later, I'll think on it a tad more... I just know I'm not making myself clear...sorry guys. |

Ha, you are feeding right out of their hands, you have no idea. YES, people can reproduce forever because the human life span is short enough to allow that without fear of overpopulation. Now if we, for some strange reason, had a never before seen population explosion that the earth just couldn't handle then we may need to be alarmed but there is no logical reason to fear such a scenario. This overpopulation myth is fear mongering Tom Foolery. Sleep tight.
